The W3 race seat is a reclined version of the W1i, making the driving position suitable for low formula race cars. The W3 has two edge cut options. The narrow 40cm edge cut allows the seat to fit in narrow cockpits. Three low profile seat belt harness holes are included, enabling use of a five or six point harness, which is strongly recommended with any reclined seat.
The low back W models are most suitable when a headrest is not practical. For example, when a vehicle where there is already a headrest support in existence.
The weight of a W3 with the backframe is approximately 3.6kg and 2kg without.
The W3 has a gloss black GRP front surface with the option of a two-panel set of Dinamica® suede covered pads.
The W3-40 version has the edges trimmed down to a maximum of 40cm to allow fitment between the gearbox tunnel and the door sill of narrow vehicles. We call this the “edges off” model.
The W3-44 has the rolled edge left on “edges on”, to give a more aesthetically pleasing look to the edge of the seat and is advised if you have the 44cm available.
The W3 is available as a single skin shell, or with a floor mountable backframe. The backframe consists of a second composite moulding bonded to the front skin, making the W3 a fully self-supporting rigid structure. Its four captive M8fittings are in the base of the seat as standard, or to special order the seat can be provided with side mounts, allowing the use of the Tillett 2° bracket sets.
